Tourists come to Sigulda at any time of the year and from all over the world. It's often called Latvian Switzerland. In summer and spring you can walk along the picturesque banks of the river Gauja and examine the main place of interest in Sigulda - mighty medieval Turaida castle. The castle is an architectural monument of the 13th century. Recently it has been restored and now it gives a proper image of beauty and might of this medieval fortress.
    There the grave of Turaidas Rose, a Latvian maiden who according to the beautiful legend killed herself rather than to give herself to the local baron, is situated. In winter, Sigulda is a center for Latvia winter sports like skiing, bobsled, and others.
