While in Riga, you
have the excellent opportunity of visiting best Latvian museums.
One of the museums that we recommend you to visit is the Open-Air
Ethnographic Museum in Riga. The museum was founded in 1924
and now is one of the oldest open-air museums in Europe.
Among the old pipes on the bank of
the river Jugla there is a small ancient town, reconstructing
the life of Latvia in the 17-19 centuries. Farmsteads, churches,
windmills, fishing villages and other historic countryside
buildings have been moved here from different parts of the
country.
In the museum you can watch craftsmen
- blacksmiths, spoon-carvers, bee-keepers, potters and others
- working in the traditional way and buy attractive souvenirs.
Craft fairs, folklore concerts and public celebration of calendar
festivities are held regularly in summer. In the small tavern
the wide range of traditional Latvian dishes and beer is offered.
All prices are on request.
