Cesis picturesque
resort is situated in the central part of Vidzeme region, approximately
ninety kilometers to North East from the Latvian capital.
The town dates back to the beginning
of the 13th century, when the construction of the stone castle
on the bank of the river Gauja was begun. In the 13-15th century
the castle was a residence of the Livonian order's grandmasters
and played an important role in the history of Baltic region.
In the 16-17th century the town suffered several sieges until
it was destroyed by the troops of Russian tzar Ivan the Terrible.
Nowadays in the town you can see
many architectural monuments of the 13-19th century. Saint
John church dating back to the 13th centure, the ruins of
the Cesis castle and the fragments of the fortification wall
represent the architecture of the medieval Latvia. There are
some apartment houses of the 18-19th century as well.
Cesis is a small resort town, where
the charm of the ancient architecture combines with the extraordinary
beauty of the nature.
Our special offer is a group tour
to Cesis Castle (for 20 persons only).
The stone Cesis (Cesu Pils) Castle
is one of the few architectural monuments of the 13th century
in Latvia. In the early Middle Ages it was a residence of
the mighty grandmaster of Livonian order. To be initiated
into the knights of the order, one had to stand difficult
tests and make four solemn vows - obedience, purity, poverty
and battle against the pagans in the name of Christ. Today
only ruins are left from the mighty medieval castle, unique
by size and authenticity in the entire Baltics.
The castle incorporates a variety
of architectural styles: elements of gothic, baroque and classicism
are combined here. But the long history of the castle doesn't
come to the end. Traditional knights' tournaments, jolly beer
festivals and open-air theatrical performances attract tourists
from different countries all over the world.
Our tour allows you to travel through
time and find yourself in the medieval Latvia. You will walk
around mystique ancient castle, meet the real medieval knights
and taste dishes, cooked according to the recipes of the 15th
century.

The golden age for the castle was
in the 15th century, when one of the most prominent masters
Walter Von Pletenberg was the head of the Order. The "secretary”

the old tower. In the tower Master Pletenberg "himself" will
welcome the tourists.
Then visitors are invited to a medieval
dinner, in the castle's courtyard, if the weather is good, or
in the cellar in case of rain. The menu includes the dishes
that were served in the 15th century - pork ribs, stuffed poultry,
rye bread, baked according to the ancient recipe, and other
15th century delicacies. Torches and ancient music will add
